Mad dash in the name of the game

February 7, 2010 – Day 409 – Phnom Penh, Cambodia

Ten minutes to noon we made a split decision to rush back to Phnom Penh so we could catch the Super Bowl. Already that morning we had walked the entire length of Kep and all the way into Kep City to the market seeking a decent place for breakfast. We never did get any breakfast and ended up grabbing a bit of lunch about 15 minutes before our 12:45 bus back to Phnom Penh arrived. We really loved visiting Kep but we also really love watching the Super Bowl and have never missed one yet. If it turns out right, we should be watching this year’s awesome game between our own Indianapolis Colts and the New Orleans Saints!

Welcome to Kep

February 6, 2010 – Day 408 – Kep, Cambodia

Swinging in a seaside hammock watching a bright pink and red sunset after a fat crab dinner drowned in Kampot pepper sauce and ice cold Angkor beer…we could get used to this kind of life.

Eh…Just another day

February 4, 2010 – Day 406 – Sihanoukville, Cambodia

Bussing south to the beach from the less picturesque city of Phnom Penh sounds like a pretty nice endeavor. We were heading to Otres Beach in Sihanoukville, known to be a quiet and relaxing beach. We arrived in a tuk tuk via a dirt and sand covered path with alternating giant rocks and giant holes.

Always on the run

February 1, 2010 – Day 403 – Phnom Penh, Cambodia

Butt flattening exercise day. 8 hours on a bus did the trick. Arrived in Phnom Penh later in the afternoon and found every guest house to be full. Left us wandering around the city for couple hours very sweaty and very irritated. Found a place finally and took it even though it was pretty crummy. Not good place to find food, cheap or otherwise, but at least we are walking around with our gear at dusk!

January 28-29, 2010 – Day 399-400 – Koh Tao to Bangkok to Siem Reap, Cambodia

Well, as promised, it was two very long, very tiring travel days right in a row. It was a bummer to leave the lovely Koh Tao but we have an itching to return for sure. The first day we didn’t get to Bangkok til 8:30PM and were pretty well spent. Dinner and bed was the end of that story.

Rambling on my mind

January 26-27, 2010 – Day 397-398 – Koh Tao, Thailand

Spent two days diving, swimming, and lying in the sun. Guess it’s not too exciting to tell, but nice to enjoy! Tomorrow we head back to Bangkok to get ready to go to Cambodia the day after. Hurray for travel days…

The Real Paradise

January 23, 2010 – Day 394 – Koh Tao, Thailand

If we previously thought we had landed in paradise, we were wrong. Today we really did land in paradise. The moment we stepped off the ferry and had a glance around the bay we were docked in, we knew it was going to be a really spectacular week.

Finding the right beach

January 19,2010 – Day 390 – Koh Samui, Thailand

Made the move down south from Mae Nam Beach to Lamai Beach. Expected it to be packed and even more overpriced than Mae Nam but were pleasantly surprised that most things (food, lodging mainly) are a tad cheaper on Lamai. Even more surprised to see just how few people are here on the island.

The Saga of the Burmese Visa Run

January 17, 2010 – Day 388 – Koh Samui, Thailand

At the ripe hour of 7AM we descended upon the city of Ranong intent upon finding the immigration office. We need that exit stamp from Thailand so we can officially leave and come back with a fresh 15 day visa. Gives us plenty of uninterrupted time to “explore” the beaches of southern Thailand. Of course, that mainly hinges on the idea that “explore” means drink beer, go diving and snorkeling, and maybe—if duty calls—some lying on the beach, just to make sure it’s safe for future travellers, of course.

Burma, here we come (sorta)!

January 16, 2010 – Day 387 – Ranong, Thailand

Another uninteresting day to read, sorry dear readers! It was a very uncomfortable 9 hour bus ride from Bangkok to Ranong. It’s a little border town where we will cross into Burma tomorrow morning to renew our visa (we need some extra time for the south and instead of using up our full first 30 days, we are cutting off a few days in order to save us unnecessary travel back and forth from the islands). More to come!
