A very short story about nothing

October 5-7, 2009 – Day 284-286 – Khujuraho, India

Got stuck here because train tickets are absolutely impossible to come by for the next few days. We left on the 7th destined for Delhi after a few very uneventful, rainy days in Khurjuraho. We will spare you the details and leave only crazy scorpion bugs.

Rainy days are here again

October 2-3, 2009 – Day 281-282 – Khajuraho, India

At 6:15AM, we arrived in a tiny town called Setna from which we had to hire a shared jeep taxi to take us the remaining 2 hours to Khujuraho. It was quite a difficult task though we evenutally got someone to take us and another couple we met at the station for Rs. 150/pp (US$3/pp).

A story of loss and the boy left behind

September 20, 2009 – Day 269 – Pokhara, Nepal

A long and arduous climb into the mountains proved another fruitless effort for the Annapurnas in the distance. It was another day too hazy from the heat to afford a view of the snowy mountains. It took the whole day, several handfuls of “cow rocks” (used to ward off mean spirited water buffalo) and lots of rest breaks but we eventually made it to the top of Sarangot.

Rainy days are sometimes the best days

September 19, 2009 – Day 268 – Pokhara, Nepal

From above, Lake Phewa looks pretty small but by the water’s edge, it seems like a pleasantly large lake. We spent some time walking around the lake and watching some row boats float noiselessly across the murky water. The afternoon was terribly rainy and flooded the streets but made for a nice evening out on our balcony watching the daylight fade from the sky.

Bargain extravaganza!

August 22, 2009 – Day 241 – Shanghai, China

Through the splattering of fat rain drops descending upon our heads, we still managed to have a good time dodging the crowds at the “antiques” market (tourist market with overpriced souvenirs and trinkets, very few antiques, and huge crowds) next to Yuyuan Gardens.

And we’re back!

August 20-21, 2009 – Day 239-240 – Shanghai, China

Well, we spent the 20th on the train to Shanghai arriving to Shanghai the morning of the 21st. We were starving and had just found a great place for breakfast when it started to rain. By the time we crossed the street it had started a surprise storm, with big raindrops falling like no tomorrow. We flat out ran back to the hostel, about 10 minutes away, and were utterly drenched by the time we returned. We rode out the fast-moving storm for a couple of hours and spent the afternoon beginning our exploration of the huge city that is Shanghai.

Happiness is a warm gun

August 10, 2009 – Day 228 – Chengdu, China

After a horrible night that made us want to die, we got up at 5AM to an orchestra of more spitting, snot rocketing, smoking, and shouting. It was still very dark and still raining outside but after 15 minutes, we could take no more. We were near delirious from having exhausted our bodies to the max yesterday, neither eaten nor slept since the day before we climbed the mountain, and on top of it, we were freezing.

Good Morning!

The Chinese Way

July 25, 2009 – Day 212 – Guilin, China

As if we didn’t have enough self-inflicted punishment on one tour yesterday, we took another one again today. This time our destination was to the Longji Rice Terraces.

Jetlagged and full of lame

July 18-19, 2009 – Day 205-206 – Hong Kong

Well, we slept most of the day away due to our apparent aversion to fixing our jetlagged bobyclocks. Otherwise, we regret to report a rather dull day of rain and also planning our first month in China and little else. More eating and sleeping…Hmm… pretty typical stuff. But hey—we leave for mainland on Monday!

Dreary day

July 2, 2009 – Day 189 – Zagreb, Croatia

It was a rainy morning and we used the time to get to Zagreb from Zadar. Zagreb is a very big, very traditional looking eastern European city with lots of great architecture, colorful heritage, and sketchy looking guys. It is a damp, dreary day and after strolling tentatively around the city square, we decided to head back to the hostel for a day “in.”
