Today’s Special: Bony fish and big rocks
March 10, 2010 – Day 440 – Ha Long Bay, Vietnam
This morning we began day one of our 3 day/2 night Ha Long Bay tour. With a mini bus ride at 8AM and then boarding the boat at 3PM, it turned out to be quite a travel day. Once we were settled aboard the ship, we were set to cruise around the bay.

Ha Long is really beautiful even on foggy days and despite the amount of tour boats, it is still a really enjoyable and peaceful ride through the massive rocky islands. Lunch was served on the boat—bony fish, lots of rice and vegetables. We took a pit stop at a brightly lit cave with safe, even walkways and colorful lights to check out some stalactites. It was really nice inside but is was a little cheesy with all the lights and signs and smoothly paved walkways.

Finally just in time for dinner, we arrived at Cat Ba Island where we would spend our first night in a hotel.

Reading about your night on Halong Bay makes me yearn to be back. My husband and I had a wonderful time on the Halong Ginger, a junk with 10 wonderful staterooms, beautiful marble baths and comfortable king sized beds all at a very reasonable price. We slept well; the waters were oh so calm and oh so quiet. I long to go back there soon.
