Slime Green

July 28, 2009 – Day 215 – Kunming, China

Grabbed a bus this morning to the supposedly beautiful Dianchi lake park. While the park itself was very nice, the lake was suffering from a large algae bloom that turned the whole lake toxic sludge green.

It was a nice walk around the park which was quite large. There were old men flying Chinese (obviously) kites, quite a few fishing along the banks, and lots of kids (including Saben) making a game of throwing stuff into the sludge.

On the edge of the lake an artificial pond has been made for scooting around in with pedal boats. It’s packed with fish and lilly pads and surrounded by traditional Chinese architecture.

Overall a fun but lazy day, China is just about perfect for that. There are nice relaxed city parks in almost everywhere we have been and they are always packed with people doing Tai Chi, flying kites, fishing, or just joining in a impromptu song and dance. Sometimes China is a little stressful but it does have its places of solace.
