Starvation Diet, Round One
July 23, 2009 – Day 210 – Guilin, China
One thing you will notice about China is the absence of breakfast. Well, at least as you are probably used to it. Here, a typical Chinese breakfast is noodles, maybe in soup, maybe with vegetables, maybe with a sticky bun, but noodles.

Boatman on the river
We are having a difficult time eating enough food to keep us full because Chinese food just doesn’t have that extra staying power that we are used to. This morning in our quest for something breakfast-y, we discovered a smoothie bar and enjoyed fresh mango smoothies and croissants for a breakfast that stuck with us longer than any meal we’ve had since landing in Hong Kong.

Travel Tip:
Be prepared to be hungry while traveling in China.
Spent a lovely day seeing more of Guilin on foot and spending a fair amount of time down by the river. Tomorrow we plan on taking a bambo boat down the Li river.

I hate that. I can’t function without a big breakfast in the morning. Otherwise I just end up searching for food and being unproductive the entire day.
