Iguazu Falls in Argentina

Day 79: Puerto Iguazu, Argentina

Get there early! That`s the best advice we can give you. Iguazu Falls is a huge tourist magnet (obviously–it`s amazing!!) and there are certain times during the day that sends waves of tour groups rushing in. The absolute best way to see the falls is on your own, at your own pace. Everything is so clearly marked and well laid out with walkways and maps and trail signs, there is literally no way to get lost even if you wanted to!

We spent the entire day walking through the park at a very leisurely pace and stopped for lunch at one of the nicer restaurants because, well, everyone knows (or has at least heard) how delicious Argentinian beef is! It was a bit more expensive than we were told (at the door) but it was absolutely worth it (40 pesos/about US$14 for all you eat HUGE buffet). It was beyond delicious, more like exquisite, and not just the meat but everything! But maybe that was just because we are coming from Brazil, the land of uninspired foods (no offense Brazil, I love the country but the food leaves much to be desired). We felt like kings and three times our waiter thought we had finished eating but we were seriously determined to get our money`s worth! (By the time we were both finished we had eaten probably close to the equivalent of about US$30 in food, if that same meal had been in the States). Plus we hadn`t eaten since lunch the day before and we wanted to savor this rare occasion of delicious food.

There isn`t much to say about the falls. They are indescribably, stunningly gorgeous and  it`s better to see them in person if you can. The magnitude and power and roar and beauty of the place is something not easily captured in photos. It`s hard to describe the roar you feel in your chest as thousands and thousands of gallons of water rush past you, spraying your face with mist. It`s a truly magnificent sight and feeling combined into an incredible experience. There are a pile of photos in the Brazil Gallery but here are a few for your immedient viewing pleasure.
