A day in the life of a tourist

Day 66: Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Well, after much resistance, today we went sightseeing like every other tourist. Admittedly, we did see some awesome stuff but it´s just not very exciting or very personal to be knocked and jostled around by 50 other tourists snapping pictures and posing and being generally inconsiderate about their fellow sightseers. Everyone´s going to have a chance to look and take photos so why de so pushy and rude? There´s no reason for that now, come on!

We took the train up to the Cristo and saw the most amazing view of Rio from the foot of the statue. We went to Ipanema beach and then down to the Aquador, a giant rocky area that essentially separates Copacabana and Ipanema beaches. It´s pretty nice to sit there and watch the fisherman, sharing their hope that they catch something good. We sat up there for a long time until the sun dipped low toward the horizon and painted swaths of color across the sky as it sank.

We ate another dinner of burgers at Bob´s Burgers, the fastfood chain here. Decent food but we are so incredibly tired of eating burgers and pizza! Where are the vegetables? Why doesn´t anyone eat anything else? Oh, why why?! But despite our bovine lamentations, we had a really great day and an enjoyable walk/ride back to the penthouse beds.

  1. Wonderful pictures, you would never know from them that there was 50 other people. It’s nice seeing things through your eyes, as I probably will never get to experience them. Enjoy this wonderful trip–a trip of a lifetime! Stay safe!
