A day off from the embassy

Day 36: San Jose, Costa Rica

Despite the morning orchestra, we awoke relieved simply to not have to make another trip to the embassy today. Two days off from that circus, woopee!

We set out for the massive open-air market that happens just 3-4 blocks away from the Galileo and WOW was it a happenin´place to be at 9am! But this wasn´t just the usual fruits-and-veggies market. No, this was a very special place in the universe. You know when you lose your TV remote in the couch and despite how many times you take out the cushions or pull it out away from the wall, you still can´t find it? Well, you will be very pleased know that it very skillfully transcends time and space and vacations in San Jose, Costa Rica. At this market, we saw piles upon piles of old, dusty remotes laid out neatly on top of old blue tarps on the ground. There were all manner of trinkets and bits and bobs at this market, in addition to the usual copious amounts of fruit and vegetable vendors.

After picking up some delicious looking produce, we meandered through the “flea market“ part, feasting our eyes on the most random of random things to sell second hand: sink faucets, boxes of cereal, shoes without mates, miscellanous pieces of metal, nail polish, rope.

Feeling already fully stocked on random second hand items, we passed out of the  market and took a slow walk back to the hostel before getting back into some feverish painting. With most of the day behind us, we enjoyed sipping a few cold beers and lounging about the rest of the evening before exhaustedly falling into a heavy sleep.
