Good bye and Good Riddance

Day 6: Roatan Island, Honduras

So this is it—the last day of a really horrible year. We couldn’t be happier! This year has been pretty rough on both of us and we are super excited to see what will happen in ‘09! Saben did 2 dives today, finishing his PADI course. Just before he left, he built Lin a sea turtle in the sand next to where she was sitting on the beach. Then, when he went out diving he actually ended up seeing two sea turtles! How weird! He saw a hawk bill turtle, a green turtle, a huge barracuda plus he found (all by himself) a sharp tailed eel which even his dive master buddy had never seen before. Anyway, scuba Saben had a great day diving and Lin is getting a really great tan. We’re planning to hit the strip with our new friends (our bunkmates) to celebrate the new year. More on that to come…

Are we there yet.

Day 5 : Roatan, Honduras

Breakfast at Rudy’s this morning (best banana pancakes ever!). We took a little walk on the beach before Saben left to take his final exam at the dive shop. He passed with a very high score and had another amazing dive that afternoon. Lin had a relaxing day sunning on the beach with a cheap mystery novel from a local shop. Read the rest of this entry »

The fish keeps looking at me!

Day 4: Roatan, Honduras

Started early in the morning with some more classroom work learning about nitrogen narcosis and decompression sickness—fun way to start the day. Read the rest of this entry »

You want to Scooba?

Day 3: Roatan, Honduras

Today the PADI scuba course began! We got up early to start the scuba training. Lots of book work this morning before we got out into the water in the afternoon. The book work is really easy but there are lots of terms to remember. We watched a few videos to go along with the book as well. It was a pretty tiring day but lots of fun. A smelly start to the morning

Day 2: La Ceiba/Roatan, Honduras

This morning we caught the first ferry (9:30am) heading out to Roatan Island. The port was jam-packed with people, cars, taxis, suitcases, and a few stray animals. Read the rest of this entry »

We’ll get there….sometime

Day 1: La Ceiba, Honduras

We finally got our Taca boarding pass at around 2:30 in the morning after an uncomfortable couple of hours in the back end of the airport. From Miami we flew to Managua, Nicaragua but luckily did not have to get off the plane. We were both really tired by this point so we were out as soon as the tires were off the ground, which we both missed the snack on the flight (some fruit and yogurt). Read the rest of this entry »

and we’re off!

0 Days!!!  Happy Anti-Christmas

Well today is it, our last day in the states. We are very anxious to get started and on the road. I can’t believe how fast this day has come upon us. It seems like no time ago we were counting down from 100 days. Read the rest of this entry »

Now, for something totally different

As you probably can tell by our twitter updates (which are as up to date as it gets) we have already arrived in Honduras. Internet access is flaky at best and our internet time is limited. New posts should come in every 2 or 3 days but they will tend to be a week or so behind which gives us some room in case of a long term internet free zone. If we can find some internet access today expect our thursday and maybe friday post tomorrow.

Until then, all is well here. We arrived alive and are currently trying to find our way to a beach!

-3 days…

Sunday was pretty bad, Monday was a  little worse but Tuesday, Tuesday is a day that will go down in history as one of the most stressful days of our lives.

When I grow up, I want to be…a starving traveler?

-5 days…

Earlier this morning, I (Lin) did something that officially brought to a close all the work I’ve been doing for the past 3 1/2 years: I graduated college!! Funny that all I seem to have to show for my hard work is an empty red binder and a very, very large tuition bill. Read the rest of this entry »
